My name is Rob Best.

I started earning with a few part-time jobs when I was just twelve years old. I started investing (through my Mum’s brokerage account) when I was fourteen. Back then, I was just following tips on ‘penny shares’ that I found in the paper. Later, I shared a subscription to a tip sheet with a school friend, and we invested together for a while.

I did a few different jobs after I left school (throwing a bit of my hard-earned into the market fairly regularly) until, in 1995, I moved to London and took a job as a futures and options broker.

I wasn’t very good.
I didn’t earn very much.
But I learned a TON of good stuff!

I learned a lot about the way global markets work, of the two forces that drive them (fear and greed), how lovely it can be to be on the right side of a big market move (and how disastrous it can be to get it wrong!) I had yet to learn, though, that ‘hot tips’ from friends, tip-sheets, the newspapers, or anywhere else, are generally past their sell-by date by the time they reach the public ear.

After a few years in the City, moving from the commodities markets to foreign exchange trading, and finally to the London Stock Exchange, I moved to Asia for a few years to pursue an entirely different track – teaching English, and running a small consultancy.

When I came back to the UK in the mid-1990s, I was still an Ordinary Investor, with my savings account, my small-beans stock portfolio, a couple of small pensions and not a lot else.

The transformation to Maverick Investor started in 2000, when I met an old colleague from the City. This guy was something of a genius when it came to number-crunching, and he’d created a piece of software that looked for very specific situations within the foreign exchange markets. Once identified these situations could be milked for huge profits in a very short space of time.

Now, I can’t say any more about him. I was sworn to secrecy back then, and I’ll never break that oath. He is still running that software today, and still taking obscene amounts of money out of the markets every single month, and we can’t go play with him!

This was very frustrating, but it was the catalyst I needed.

I realised that there was far more to investing than I’d ever realised (despite working for nearly a decade at the heart of the City of London!)

I realised there are multiple layers and hidden depths where those who know The Way are just using the markets as their own personal cash machines.

For the past eight years, I’ve made it my sole mission to find these people and grill them till they throw me out! I’ve flown all over the world, met them in all sorts of locations from the exotic to the downright grotty, and I’ve extracted every nugget of information I can from them.

They are all Maverick Investors in their own field. However, through my years of research, digging, hounding and harassing, I believe I am the ONLY cross-discipline Maverick Investor around!

Why should you listen to me?
